6th studio album by Laurie Anderson following 7 years after Bright Red (Oct. 1994) is her first studio album after leaving the Warner Bros. label, now settling with Nonesuch as the label for all of her following releases.
Once again, Anderson releases an album after a long period concentrating on art performances and live concerts, and this time, I think, the end result isn't what I personally find intriuging. To me, it's very much because I'm convinced that Laurie Anderson has found a more personal outlet for her music with the shift to a label renowned for letting its artists have fuller control of their music, which means that this is the type of music she has wanted to release at this point. Still, of all her albums, this is to my ears probably her least interesting album. For my taste, that is. Stylistically, she dwells on her many spoken-word performances over the years adding strings and chamber music to her original lyrics. Granted, Laurie Anderson is not just all about music, and perhaps she should rightfully be rated in the light of being more of a multi-media performance artist, however, I stick entirely to the musical aspect of it - it is nevertheless a music release - and then it's not actually comming through to my receiver too well.
Not recommended.
